The musicals spectacular led by David Mahoney will feature The Novello Orchestra, with the West End’s Kerry Ellis, Matt Cardle, Noel Sullivan, Sophie Evans and Lucie Jones in Cardiff this Sunday 29 October.

One of the best sounding concert halls in the world, Cardiff’s St David’s Hall will host some of the West End’s most acclaimed singers this October for a one-off “Night at the Musicals” spectacular.

The star-studded line up will include leading lady Kerry Ellis, whose credits include Wicked and Les Misérables, X Factor winner Matt Cardle, former Hear’Say singer and star of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Noel Sullivan, Wicked’s soon to be Glinda Sophie Evans and Lucie Jones, fresh from representing the UK in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The Novello Orchestra, a name synonymous with the glitz and glamour of the musicals, will make its St David’s Hall debut on Sunday 29 October after recent acclaimed performances at the London Palladium, Royal Festival Hall, Wales Millennium Centre and Royal Festival Hall.

The celebration of musical theatre will feature show-stopping songs from Wicked, Les Misérables, Chicago, Hairspray, Miss Saigon and many more – and all under the baton of Only Men Aloud’s David Mahoney. David Mahoney said: “St David’s Hall is the perfect location for the spectacle that The Novello Orchestra provides. The evening is set to be a stylish, sophisticated take on well-known musical show-stoppers as well as more contemporary repertoire.”

Under the baton of David Mahoney, The Novello Orchestra hits the road to perform the Oscar winning La La Land Film with Live Orchestra, visiting concert halls and theatres across the UK and Ireland this September.

Composed by Justin Hurwitz, the La La Land score has received critical acclaim, particularly for the film’s show-stopping songs ‘City of Stars’ and ‘Audition (The Fools Who Dream)’.

Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.

The movie received 14 nominations at the 89th Academy Awards ®, and picked up six awards, most notably for Best Director, Best Actress, as well as Best Original Song for ‘City of Stars’ and Best Original Score.

It also received seven nominations at the 74th Golden Globe Awards, winning in all seven categories including Best Motion Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Original Score.

'Broadway in Concert' and 'The Golden Age of Dance' will be coming to the London Palladium, Theatre Royal Drury Lane and Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre this November.

Step back in time to the golden age of Hollywood movies as a cast of West End dancers and singers join The Novello Orchestra in a celebration of the iconic MGM movie moments made famous by the likes of Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Gene Kelly and Judy Garland.

From Top Hat and Singin' In the Rain to Easter Parade, Anchors Aweigh and Kiss Me Kate, The Golden Age of Dance is a nostalgic evening of entertainment set to a soundtrack of Hollywood’s finest music by composers including George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin and many more.
